David T. Hurst,
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
David guides Cogniscape’s strategic vision and founded the company based upon the gaps he saw in existing analytics tools. Prior to founding Cogniscape in January 2004, David was a Senior Manager in the Technology and Business Process Solutions division of Smart & Associates LLP, a national professional services firm headquartered in Devon, PA. In this capacity, David was responsible for the sale and delivery of technology-related engagements to large and middle market clients including Johnson & Johnson, ACE Insurance, and Kemper Insurance. He was also the lead architect and a key developer for the Smart Process Framework (SPF), a flexible workflow management tool that has been successfully implemented at many of Smart’s largest clients.
Before joining Smart & Associates, Mr. Hurst was a Senior Manager with the Business Consulting division of Arthur Andersen LLP where he worked for six years. At Andersen, David was responsible for the sales and delivery of numerous IT-related service engagements across industries. His key clients included Siemens Health Services (formerly SMS), Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Towers Perrin, Right Management Consultants, and Telespectrum. He was also involved in sales development, recruiting, and training activities and served as the geographic leader of both the Advanced Technology Group and the Data Warehousing competency center.
David is a native of the Philadelphia area and received a bachelor’s degree in logic and the philosophy of science from Brown University in 1992.
David G. Anderer,
Vice President of Product Development
David has been integral to the development of Cogniscape’s CogniViz solution. He is a seasoned software architect, technology manager and team leader with 28 years of experience in software development, product commercialization, and technical support management. Prior to joining Cogniscape, David founded and managed Blue Chip Computing, a software development firm that specialized in designing and implementing object-oriented software solutions for Fortune 1000 clients. His clients at Blue Chip included IBM, Bank One, First Data, and DuPont.
David received a bachelor’s degree in computer and information sciences from the University of Delaware.
Jeffrey B. Sandler,
Vice President of Business Development
Jeff brings over 25 years of marketing and sales experience with an emphasis on market development of early stage technology products. Prior to joining Cogniscape, Jeff was a consultant specializing in multi-channel market strategy development and execution. Jeff brings to Cogniscape hands-on experience selling and marketing products and services to Fortune 2000 companies, including Prudential, Wells Fargo, State Farm and Citibank.

Maurice P. Andrien
Mr. Andrien joined the Cogniscape Management Committee in July, 2005. He is currently a Director of State Industrial Corporation, The Hillman Group, and Kaba Holding Ltd. He retired as Chairman of The Hillman Group and SunSource Technology Services in 2004. From 1999 to 2001 he was President, CEO, and Director of SunSource, Inc., a publicly traded industrial distributor. Prior to SunSource, Mr. Andrien was President of Unican Security System, Ltd., a publicly traded manufacturer of keys, locks, and other security products. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Andrien was a Partner at Tinicum Investors, L.P. in New York. He has also held other CEO and senior executive positions in his career and served on several non-profit boards.
Mr. Andrien received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in management at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
Norman V. Edmonson
Mr. Edmonson retired in 1998 as Executive Vice President of SunSource, Inc., a NYSE-listed industrial distribution company. During his 21 years with SunSource and its predecessor companies, Mr. Edmonson was responsible for more than 50 acquisitions. He also served as group Vice President for several operating divisions, and had responsibility for administration and finance. He served on the Board of SunSource, Inc. and currently serves as Chairman of the Health Services Board for the Crozer-Keystone Health System.
Mr. Edmonson holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Yale University and an MBA from Harvard University.
Arnold S. Hoffman
Mr. Hoffman is a retired Senior Managing Director of Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc., a financial services and brokerage firm. Prior to joining Legg Mason, he was Chairman of The Middle Market Group, an investment bank affiliated with Shearson Lehman Brothers Inc., specializing in merger, acquisition and divestiture activities and the placement of debt and equity to the private markets. Mr. Hoffman was a Managing Director of Shearson Lehman Hutton Inc. where he founded and was responsible for the firm's middle market investment banking group.
Mr. Hoffman was also a founder and general partner of Financo Investors Fund, L.P., a venture capital fund, that provided equity financing to emerging companies in the retail, consumer products and health care fields, such as Intelligent Electronics and Salton Maxim.
Mr. Hoffman currently serves as a Director of a number of closely held and family controlled businesses. He is currently Vice Chairman and a Director of Almo Corporation; a Director of Computer Corporation of America, Inc., S.R. Smith, LLC, Enigma CKM, Inc. and an Adviser to the Board of The Penn Companies.
E. Gerald Hurst, Ph.D.
Dr. Hurst co-founded GHR Systems, Inc., a leading third-party provider of software and information services in the mortgage and consumer banking industry, where he has served as President, CFO, Vice Chairman, and Director. He has also served on the Boards of a number of startup technology companies. Dr. Hurst is an emeritus professor of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a founder and the first chairman of the Department of Decision Sciences at Wharton, served as director of the Executive MBA Program and was the first Assistant Dean for International Affairs. Before going to Wharton, Dr. Hurst started a management science group in the Power Transmission Division of the General Electric Company.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a master’s degree in operations research, and a doctorate in management, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
David G. McNitt, Esq.
Mr. McNitt has been in private practice of law for more than twenty-five years. During that time he has served as outside general counsel to privately held businesses in: corporate governance and policy development; business planning; technology licensing; private placement of debt and equity securities to domestic and foreign private and institutional investors; acquisition, divestment, re-capitalization and reorganization strategies.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Juniata College (Huntingdon, Pennsylvania) and his juris doctorate from Hamline University School of Law (St. Paul, Minnesota).
